A CHURCH SPEAKS

Here I have stood for five score years,
A faithful shelter from life’s fray,
To share the hopes, the joys and fears
Of all who strive to find The Way.

Rich history and mysteries
I’ve guarded as the years rolled by ---
A sacred trust that shall not cease
As long as there be earth and sky.

Inside my stained-glass windowed walls
Departed saints sang hymns of praise
Which echo now down hallowed halls ---
Sweet memories of yesterdays.

I stand, despite time, undefiled,
Each Lord’s Day filled with life anew;
For I feel young and like a child
As worshippers fill every pew.

And if upon my doors you’ll knock,
Then enter in to hear The Word,
I’m here to represent That Rock,
The Savior, who is Christ our Lord.

This was written to commemorate the One Hundredth Anniversary of the building of First Church of Christ, Covington, Indiana.
