LATE LOVE
I've lived for almost four-score years
And have my share of aches and fears;
But I would swear, by saints above,
that yesterday I fell in love!
I fell in love with someone who
Reminds me of a beau I knew
When I was young and full of dreams
Before time raveled at the seams.
Don't tell my husband, or he'll fret
That I have lost my senses yet
And mean to put him on the shelf,
I'll have to break the news myself.
We drove to a secluded spot
Not on the map--it's just a dot.
We stopped while driving through the hills,
Bought apples and a jar of dills;
October air was soft and warm
With colored leaves and rustic charm.
A silken haze about us lay.
A perfect Indian summer day!!
We dined where the Ohio wends
Its winsome way with horseshoe bends.
Our cares were to the four winds flung
And, once again, we both felt young.
He's got six grandkids, young and spry
Some funny quirks--but so have I.
We didn't care what folks might say--
Just laughed and played the day away.
I felt so gay and fancy-free,
I don't know what came over me;
Then Cupid gave a little shove
And this old woman fell in love.
